Hello world!

I am fast approaching the end of the NZ school year and will be on leave for 2013. Since beginning teaching in 1999 I have been extremely fortunate to have worked in a school where professional learning is strongly valued and supported. Through this, I have become a better learner and educator every year.

For the last 5 or 6 years, SOLO Taxonomy has emerged as the one common framework for learning which has “stuck” across most departments within our school and for the last two years, one of my roles has been to facilitate and support staff in using SOLO Taxonomy as Shared Framework for learning. I have not been doing this alone and many others on our staff deserve credit. Our school journey and also my own learning journey with SOLO would not have started and developed to the point that it is without the work of Pam Hooks consultancy. Again, I am lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to benefit from this.

Anyway, engaging people and enacting a  “whole school framework for learning” is an ongoing process. I feel there is also so much more for me to learn and develop regarding the use of SOLO as a framework for learning. While I am on leave fixing our earthquake damaged house, taking our son to school, doing the dishes, surfing, diving, learning guitar, drinking coffee etc. I am fearful of missing out on the thinking and learning around education that I enjoy so much.

So……… one of my goals over the next year is to blog some of the ideas and resources i have developed or modified and to join in this great online learning community.
